Surely you meant 'south' since that area was generally under Federal control from the summer of 1863 forward. As best I know today, these are the county location references for that regiment:
Company “A” of Marion and Franklin Counties
Company “B” of Walker, Fayette and Pickens Counties
Company “C” of Marion and Franklin Counties “McCluskey Sharpshooters”
Company “D” of Fayette County
Company “E” of Franklin and Lawrence Counties
Company “F” of Marion and Fayette Counties
Company “G” of Blount and Morgan Counties
Company “H” of Marion County
Company “I” of Fayette County
Company “K” of Morgan and Lawrence Counties
A number of men from Pickens County are probably scattered among these companies. All this is further confused by the transfer of half these companies to the 5th Ala. Cav. in a reorganization during October of 1864. If anyone knows what happened I'd like to hear from them.....
