Dear Todd,
I just finished writing a book on the 41st Alabama. I transcirbed each war record (aournd 1,600) and built a data file. I did not find any name like or similar to your ancestor. A measles epidemic did run through the Regt while it was forming/training in Tuscaloosa. Fifty-five men perished and a score of others were sent home debilitated from their illness. The record keeping was pretty good at this stage in the Regt's evolution. The 41st did have a surplus of men. Some men who signed on were transferred to the 43rd Inf. and to a partisan cavalry unit. I checked Co. B of the 40th and found no match to the surname spelled with a "C" and with a "K". Sorry. Bill
