One entry exists under the name Frank Wolf, a death claim filed for pay due the deceased soldier on March 9, 1863, by Mary V. Wolf. The entry identifies him as a member of Co. "H", 1st Ala. Cav. Regt. During the history of this regiment, company designations changed three times, but I'd have to assume he belonged to Abney's 1st Co. "H", organized at Claiborne, Ala. as the "Sandy Williams Guards". This company mustered at Montgomery, Ala., Dec. 12, 1861. Citing ill health, Capt. H. Orlando Abney resigned on May 26, 1862, so we might assume that during the Shiloh Campaign the company was led by Lt. Vincent M. Elmore. Most members were from Monroe and Butle Counties. If this soldier lived in another part of the state, we might wonder if he really belonged to another company.
