For the last half of the war the 2nd Alabama Cavalry served in a brigade led by Brig.Gen. Samuel W. Ferguson. If you use a good search engine, the search term "Ferguson's Brigade" will yield a number of sites to investigate. The regiment served in the Pensacola area, and then northeast Mississippi where it joined Ferguson's Brigade. Ferguson's men frequently fought against Sherman's armies, first in the Tennessee Valley, then in the area north of and around Atlanta, then across the state to Savannah GA and briefly in the Carolinas. The brigade was the last Confederate unit to leave Atlanta and formed part of President Davis' escort to Washington GA. Here's Dr. Jones' site for a brief history of the unit:
