My ancestor Martin Calvin Highfield served with the 16th AL Infantry. He was captured at the Battle of Fishing Creek. He was a prisoner for several years and his family thought he was dead. Does anyone know where prisoners from that battle would have been taken?
After the war he was never even granted a pension nor his wife after his death, though they tried for many, many years.
