Sorry -- My point on Clanton's Brigade wasn't worded clearly. Members of both Clanton's and Buford's commands were doubtless captured between Benton and Girard during Wilson's raid. Evidently Federal soldiers wanted to attribute flags they picked up along the way to Confederate units resisting their advance. If you expected to be honored for capture of a battleflag, it wouldn't sound right to say that you took it out of a trunk you found in a Southern lady's bedroom.
