19th's Flag
Wed Apr 11 13:22:13 2001
While I am no expert on flags, I do know that somewhere there is a surviving example (maybe just a photo, I don't know) of the 19th's flag. It is not of this style. [That does not mean that the flag could not have been replaced at some point, though, with this style.]
Not knowing much about flags, I hope that I describe it correctly. It has a white cross, horizontal and vertical bars...not X type, on a blue field and shows battle honors. (Is this the St. Andrew's Cross style?) I think I have an electronic version of a color drawing of the flag on a disc. I'll take a look, and maybe Jim can post it if I have it.
I can find no evidence (I haven't looked too hard, yet) of the battle flag of the 19th being captured. If that is so, then it would have been surrendered in N.C. at the end of the war.
