Buford Newman
Surrender site - Citronelle, AL
Wed Apr 11 10:37:24 2001

I got it open. Thanks again. I was using "Civil War
Surrender Site, Citronelle, AL" in the search line. I guess
that was too much information-I used "Citronelle" "Surrender
Oak" and it opened. I went on and printed out the info on
Gen.Taylor and the picture of the surrender memorial.

My gr grandfather, Pvt. Pleasant Austin Newman served in
"I" Co. 2nd MS Cav (Reserves) and was one of the troops
that was surrendered there. They then were marched to
Columbus, MS and got paroled on May 16 or May 18. He went
home to Pontotoc Cy. MS from there. Later came to Arkansas
in fall of 1871 where this Newman family still resides.
He received a head wound in the war at Selma or Ebeneezer
Church which later became cancerous and was listed as cause
of his death in 1918 in Logan Cy. AR. My gr grandfather on
my mother's side, Pvt. W.W.Burns of Prairie Cy. AR served in
"C" company, 25th AR INF, and Co.s "C" and "K" 36th AR INF
fought at the battle of Helena, AR and Little Rock, AR. He
was not wounded in the war. These are my people who fought
in the CW. Thanks again for the help and nice visit.!
