Hayes Lowe
A possible match on the Luverne cannon.

Last night I was watching the National Geographic show on TV, and the episode was on the CSS Hunley.

For a very brief moment, a siege cannon or shore cannon was shown. It had a tube length of about 10 feet, and was mounted on a huge wooden frame. Although it was a brief shot, it was a very good one with the cannon being the subject of the photo, and it was shown in profile.

This cannon looked, in the very brief time it was on the screen, to be identical in design to the small barrel found at Luverne...including the bulbous tailend with no rings that much has been made of in "concluding" that it could not possibly e a "real" cannon. The frontend (pardon my ignorance of correct cannon terminology) from the muzzle and back, was the exact design, as well. Unfortunately, the shot was too quick for me to see the knob for comparison.
