need help with brick wall

I've talked to Texas in February and received everything they had which isn't much. Nothing about war record, just testimony that helped his wife receive her pension. Wish that Hayes Lowe fellow you (George) mentioned could help me out. Mississippi would be of no help because my ancestor joined an Alabama regiment - Gulf City Guard. What I want to know is how the men in the Gulf City Guard went into action in the 24th Ala. Infantry Company G, in what kind of action my ggrandfather was involved, amplified military service record in other words. Is this possible?
