My Gr, Gr, Gr, Grandfather was Thomas Sims (T.S.) Phillips of the 13th Alabama Infantry. I have some records of his service, but very little. I know they were sent to Montgomery for training, then assigned to the army of Northern Virginia under Stonewall Jackson's Corps. in February of 1862. T.S.'s records show that he was present at most of the major battles of Northern Virginia including Seige of Yorktown, Seven Pines, Mechanicville, 1st Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill, South Mountain, Chancellorsville, Antietam/Sharpsburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Spottsylvania Courthouse, Hanover Junction, and more. T.S. was listed absent on "Detail Duty" at 2nd Cold Harbor,...(it appears that he wasy busy being killed at Turkey Ridge). He also missed a battle or two when he was wounded and captured at Gettysburg, (Mine Run was one of these), then paroled in a prisoner exchange. He went home to Roanoake, Alabama to heal his wounds, (so he was out of commission from July 3rd, 1863 to March of 1864, when he returned to his unit, or what was left of it). Although I know he was present at these battles, I am not sure wheither or not there was anything left of the 13th Alabama Infantry, It appears that they were chopped up pretty good at Sharpsburg and again at Gettysburg. (Records show that T.S. was also severely wounded at Sharpsburg). I would love to be able to know the 13th Alabama Infantry's involvement in these battles. Anyone who can shine a little light on these events, please e-mail me @ jwallace69@prodigy.net
Thanks, Jeff Wallace, Montgomery, Alabama
