ALmost certain this is your man, indexed as J. T. Norman. He signs as J. T. sometimes, J. T. Norman others. He was elected 2nd Lt. of Co. "B", 23rd Ala. Inf. Regt.:

James Tallmadge Norman. Appointed 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant on July 18, 1862, to rank July 14, 1862; formerly 2nd Lieutenant of Company “B”. Captured at Port Gibson, Mississippi, May 1, 1863. Forwarded to City Point, Virginia, on February 24, 1865, for exchange. You can see more information about him in T. M. Owens, Dictionary of Alabama Biography vol 4., p. 1285; Also North Alabama, Historical and Biographical, p. 187.

Here's some information on his company and its captains. It's from Macon County, but that included part of present Lee County so Russell and Macon were joined at that time:

Appointed Major March 10, 1864, to rank January 25, 1864, but declined. Resigned March 21, 1864, being over forty-five years of age and wishing to resume duties as pastor of his church.
