The following is found on the online index for the 1850 Pickens Co. census:

104a 13 Parsons, M. age 59 born in VA. pg0102a.txt
104a 14 Parsons, Mary age 59 VA. pg0102a.txt

These are the only two Parsons listed in the 1850 Census of Pickens Co., but at this age, the children are likely to have been out of the house. Perhaps M.P. came to Pickens Co. because his parents were there. It would be worth taking a look at the un-indexed Alabama State Census of 1855 in Pickens Co. to see what you find!

It also may be that M. actually is M.P., and that he joined the 2nd and died due to his age (maybe even before they left Pickens Co., which might explain why he was never found on the rolls of the 2nd). Remember, the 2nd Ala. Inf. was formed from the AVC which may have had different rules of age than did CSA service. The company did not become part of the 2nd Alabama until it reached Fort Morgan.
