I can confirm that a William W. Fikes was a private in Co. H of the 20th Al. Inf. The National Archives Box, Roll and Number are 000374, 0014, 00003176. His compiled service record can be obtained from the National Archives, or the Dept. of Archives in Montgomery or possibly the Birmingham Library.
