Roger,

In looking at a map of the railroads in GA and AL the Atlanta and West Point continue straight on to Opelika in the same southwesterly direction, as though it was a continuation of that railroad. At Opelika, it makes an abrupt straight West turn to Montgomery. Knowing that there was no standard, I was just curious if the two different lines had different gauges or perhaps even more interesting if the turn at Opelika changed to a different gauge within the Montgomery and West Point.

BTW, how important a town was Opelika during the WBTS. Apparently enough that it deserved a little bit of an out of the way stop between West Point and Montgomery rather than a straight line between these two points.

I hope I'm not getting too carried away with these RR questions.
