15th Ala Uniforms

Ok, here it goes, the 15th Alabama would have had locally produced uniforms when they went to war in 61 this would have been the case til the later part of 1862 when the Confederate Central Government Quartermaster Depot system kicked in and then they would have received some clothing from the Richmond Clothing Depot, this along with getting some items from home would have been the case for much of the war, upon their return from the Gettysburg Campaign they received a large issuance of clothing in their Camps along the Rappahanock before being ordered to reenforce the Army of Tennesse in Chattanooga. This clothing was made of imported British Army cloth and was of a Blue-Grey Color, more blue than anything or as one Alabamian put it "too blue for its own good". They also would have received Sky Blue pants from Richmond, the pattern would be different than for the Federal issue sky blue pants. These were probably made of imported kersey but may have been made of sky blue cotton jean cloth. Headgear would have been either Civilian hats or kepis made of the blue army cloth. I dont know for sure but I seem to recall that the 15th also carried Enfields at Chickamauga. I hope this helps, if you have any further questions, please feel free to email me.
