Checking each service record, dates on the markers all match. The name "Hollins" is incorrect; is should be "Holland". A couple of entries say these men were buried on the "P West farm".

It's troubling that lack of medical care and unsanitary conditions at the Newport News prison barracks either contributed to the deaths of these men or caused them. Cause of death was listed as dystentery, diarrhea, etc. I understand that conditions in Federal prisons during the war were deplorable. However, it seems that officers in charge would've seen that peace was at hand and done the right thing. All of these prisoners were veterans, were captured during the retreat to Appomattox and should've survived the war if they had not been placed in a Federal POW camp.....
