It's almost exactly the way you described it except that he ended the war at Columbus MS, not Columbia. This regiment is intersting because it served in both the Army of Northern Virginia as well as the Army of Tennessee, the only Alabama unit to have done so, excluding Law's Brigade which fought at Chickamauga.
