2nd Reserves/63rd Regiment

My g-g-grandfather started out in the 2nd Regiment Alabama Reserves and his military records show he ended up in the 63rd Co. I. His father was in the 3rd Alabama Reserves. I have letters that the two wrote back and forth between August 14, 1864 and April 13, 1865. In the last letter the 63rd seems to be around Mobile/Spanish Fort while the elder "old man's regiment" is in Montgomery. So it would seem that not all of the 3rd Reserves was mixed with the 63rd. However, the letter doesn't specify which unit he is with at the time, I can only assume it is the 3rd Reserves.
