Todd, I think I would check with the Ala. Dept of Archives and History before I went any farther. In my case family stories are proving to be correct, so I would put a lot of faith in them. Why your hero is not on the muster roll, could be a thousand reseasons. I find that once a person signs up his name usually apperas on the roll. Perhaps you should try other units from the same area. Also consider this: he may have never mustered. Before you search for his grave, you really need to narrow down the field as much as possible. There are about 2,000 places online where he may be buried. If he is in a marked grave in a major CSA Cemetery, you should be able to get that info from ALA.
