2nd Alabama

Well, it is a little complicated. The "real" 2nd Alabama Infantry Regiment was formed from the Alabama Volunteer Corps and served for one year. [I say real, because traditionally, when one says "2nd Ala." it would mean the "2nd Alabama Infantry Regiment". Infantry Regiment is understood. Battalions, Reserves, and Cavalry units are designated as such in records, i.e. "2nd Ala. Battalion".] Co. B became Companies B and D of the 42nd Alabama Infantry. (Not all men reenlisted at that point.)

There was also a 2nd Alabama Infantry Battalion and a 2nd Alabama Infantry Reserves.

And, there was 2nd Alabama Cavalry, and either the 51st, 53rd, or 56th (can't remeber which, right now) was sometimes referred to as the 2nd Ala. Cavalry.

So, you see, it is easy to confuse all of the above. The records of the "real" 2nd Alabama Infantry Regiment on microfilm are the worst of any that I have seen. Records are mixed in from the 2nd Ala. Cav., the 2nd Ala. Inf. Batt., and the 2nd Ala. Reserves. It is just a real mess.

Now, back to your particular question. Co. B of the 2nd Alabama Infantry Regiment was formed in Pickens Co. from the AVC's "Lane Guards". I haven't found a listing for a Parson in that company (but that doesn't mean he wasn't a part of that company). I tend to think that this is the regiment/company that Parson was in, as it would have likely been under Holzclaw while stationed at Mobile, but I have no proof of that, yet.
