There were 2 prewar military schools in Dallas County (Selma). Orrville Institute is mentioned as receiving 75 cadet muskets from the state of Alabama in 1852. And a "Central Military Institute" of Selma (probably the school of Professor L.B. Johnson in Selma) also existed. This school may be the predecessor of the postwar Selma Military Institute.
