The following is from my data-base, all numbers are National Archives Box, Roll, and Number: These numbers may be useful if you can go to the National Archives or one of their regional offices (Atlanta, Dallas, KC etc.) compiled service records can also be obtained through the Al. Department of Archives and History.

McCleskeys from Alabama units:

Abner P. Co. B; 28th Al. Inf. Rank in Private out Lieutenant (no archives #)

D. H. Co. C; 48th Al. Inf.; Rank in Private out Sergeant (no archives #)

D. K Co. B; 4th(Russell’s) Al. Cavalry; Private (no archives #)

David J. Co. F; 26th Al. Inf.; Private; 000374, 0029, 00001475

E. D. Co. B; 4th(Russell’s) Al. Cavalry; Private; K(no archives #) Misc. Ezerill D.

J. B. Co B; 4th(Russell’s) Al. Cavalry; Private; (no archives #) Misc. James B.

J. E.; Co I; 35th Al. Inf. (no rank given) 000374, 0029, 00001481

J. F. Co D; 11 Al. Cavalry; Corporal; 000374, 0029, 00001482

James, Co. F; 1 Regiment Al. Inf.; 000374, 0029, 00001479

John; Company F 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry; Private 000374, 0029, 00001483
I was in error in my earlier email. I had this person listed as John F. the “F” is
the Company to which he belonged. This could be your man.

L. A. 94th Al. Vols. Milita. Surgeon; 000374, 0029, 00001484

William F. Co. E; 1st Battalion Al. Artillery; Private 000374, 0029, 00001485

Many more are in Georgia and Mississippi, all in all 50 some-odd McCleskey listings for both sides.

There are 1,173 Nichols (on both sides of the conflict) names that start with J. and about that many that start with G., but none with the names and initial you included, except the one mentioned earlier, Green Nichols of Kansas. There are too many to include in this message. There is a publication by Broadfoot Publishers that is a very good list of soldiers and sailors of the War for Southern Independence, or as they call it the Civil War. This publication can be found in most libraries.

Good luck with your search
