The G.W. Cox of the 40th, Co. C, was George W. Cox. He enlisted in Sumter County on 2/4/1863 for 3 years. He was discharged two months later (April 1863) on a "Surgeon's Certificate".

The G.W. Cox of the 41st, Co. B, enlisted in Marshal County, Ala. on 3/12/1863. Obviously from the dates, this could not be the same person.

Of interest is that J.E. and W.P. Cox also joined Co. B of the 41st in Marshal County. They both joined on 2/12/1863. These Coxes could have traveled to Marshal County, from Pickens County to enlist. In fact, this is highly probable. They may have also been local residents of Marshal County.
