AnonymousRe: Questions for you.Sun Mar 18 08:27:27 2001 My understanding of what I read was that the 4th AL Battalion Reserves was in Mobile and organized as the 65th AL Infantry in November of '64. In December the 65th was sent to MS to repel raiders and was there for several weeks. The 3rd Battalion was consolidated with the 4th in March of '65. Ordered from Mobile to NC, the 65th was stopped in Montgomery and ordered to report to Gen'l Abraham Buford. They fought against Union Gen'l James H. Wilson's column at Girard on April 16, 1865. This info is Ken Jones' site and also on the ADA&H site. Not many particulars are given, but the Field & Staff Officers are listed. This small bit I got from a website on Phenix City / Russell County..."The "Battle of Girard", fought in April of 1865, is the last land battle of the Civil War, and due to the lack of speedy communication was fought one week after the surrender of Lee at Appomatox." Forgot to fill in sender info on above post! Barry N. Wyatt, Sun Mar 18 08:29 Thanks... Hayes Lowe, Sun Mar 18 12:17 Wado, Hayes!
