John C. Carter"Pope Walker's Legion"Sun Mar 18 01:53:10 2001 In a Civil War letter from Limestone County, I ran across a reference to "Pope Walker's Legion" which was being organized in Huntsville in 1861. I know this is not Leroy Pope Walker, as he was Secretary of War at the time. The only other Walker I could find that might fit the bill was Col. L. M. Walker, whose 4 companies from the 40th Tennessee were merged into the 54th Alabama.Does anyone know if his outfit was ever known as Walker's Legion?
