My ggrandfather was captured on June 27th 1863--- since the Shelbyville fight. Yes, he was my great grandfather as my father was born in 1888. But from the military records, he travelled by the military prison in Louisville, Ky, Camp Chase, Ohio, ( a bad place), Ft. Delaware and finally wound up in Chester Penn. at the hospital there for which he spent almost two months there. Why didn't he wind up in the military prisons which he passed by? One source of mine was he was helping his comrades as the reason they let him travel to the hospital. If George has any input--Would appreciate it!
