Multiple numbers

Bryan,

What does it mean when there are multiple numbers. These numbers are sometime labled as a "type" of number. For example, one number may say "ascension no.", and the other number some other type of number. I guess my basic question is, what do the different type of numbers represent.

BTW, NARA has many of the original records, and if you are there in person, you can ask to see them. Of course, those that belonged to the various states were returned to those states. In the case of Alabama, these are available at the state archives.

Another question, were the records that were owned/held by the military archives included in the microfilm...they seem to have not been.
