Never there because....

You might my other post on this topic. I'm not going to be surprised if the 30th Ala. Freeman was a casualty of the Vicksburg Campaign. I should've recalled that Co. "L" of the 18th Ala. was an ad hoc organization disbanded by order of the War Department on Mar. 2, 1863. This of course is the other reason this Freeman wouldn't have been at Vicksburg.

I've started work on members of Lockett's City Guards. A gentleman asked about two members of his family that belonged to this command. Apparently both were assigned to Co. "B", 50th Ala., a Limestone County unit. Of course they couldn't recruit like most Alabama companies and were probably short of men. Anyway, neither have any records prior to 1864 and both have subsequent entries. One was seriously wounded at Ezra Church and the other was aproled at Talladega in May 1865. The same sort of thing happens of most of the ten records I checked yesterday.

In sum, the company was broken up before April of 1864 and members assigned to Alabama infantry commands serving in the Army of Tennessee. I will continue to check other members as time permits.
