Forgive me if this has already been discussed somewhere on this message board but I have not seen it.

Can anyone tell me why the 41st Alabama had a Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida Battle flag with a red pole sleeve (indicating artillery?)

When was this flag issued to the 41st? Was it after they joined the ANV? If so, what type of battle flag did they carry while assigned to the Army of Tennessee and what happened to it?

I understand that federal Corporal Franklin W. Lutes of Company D, 111th New York received the Medal of Honor for capturing the 41st Battle flag, flag bearer and possibly one or more others.
