Hayes, the 2nd Confederate Regiment was an infantry regiment, composed of Mississippi and Alabama companies, and one Arkansas company -- Co. G, "Osceola Hornets" from Osceola, Arkansas, Capt. Charles Bowen commanding. The company was mustered into service at Memphis on August 10, 1861. They were transferred from the 2nd Confederate Infantry to the 9th Arkansas Infantry on May 1, 1862, and were designated as (new) Co. I in the 9th Arkansas.
