I don't think that this is your guy, the only first name of a Perry that starts with "L" that I find in the 44th is Private Levin Perry of Company B. [Middle initial not given on the roll that I saw.]

There are a whole bunch of Perry's in the 44th, however. In fact, one of them rose to the Brigadier General rank. This was Gen. William Flake Perry of Macon County. There was also a Sion J. Perry. This *may* be the "L.J." Perry in Wayne's data base, as the old fashion "S" can easily be mistranscribed as an "L". Sion J. was a 4th Sgt. in Co. D.
