Tom ElmoreJohn Karnes McBride, Co. C, 9 Ala.Wed Mar 7 14:42:55 2001 John Karnes McBride's name appears in: Valley Leaves (North Alabama) Tenn. Valley Geneological Society, vol. 22, no. 1 as being wounded and captured on July 3, 1863. He was sent to Johnson's Island, Ohio, the Federal prison camp for Confederate officers. A list of those officers published by the Virginia Historical Society shows a Lt. J.R. McBride from the 9th Ala. who was captured on July 3 and is likely the same individual; his place of residence is noted as Moulton, Al. McBride was likely wounded by a battery in Maj. McGilvery's artillery line in the belated attack by Wilcox's command after Pickett's charge. The 9th was on the extreme right (south) of Wilcox's line.
