Two days ago, the Herald-Register ran a story concerning Iowa's regimental flags. They have not taken very good care of them and are now only starting restoration/conservation efforts on them. Most of them were on display in cases at several corners beneath the capitol rotunda and had been exposed to flourescent lightning for many years. The one they showed in the article, a silk flag (the 21st Iowa I believe it was),was in very bad shape

If they treat their own flags with such carelessness, imagine what shape the captured flags are in.
