You have posted some most interesting information. This is probably William J. Kersey of the 46th Ala. He is the only person in Company C whose name comes close. His records in the Compiled Service Records shows the following:

Kersey, William J.

Joined for duty and enrolled March 19, 1862 at Smilies Bridge, Pike County, Albama by Captain Nathaniel G. Oattis for three years or the war. Appears on Company Muster-In Roll for April 6, 1862 at Greenville, Alabama. Captured at Champion Hill (Baker's Creek) May 16, 1863 and sent to Camp Morton. Shipped to Fort Delaware and exchanged July 4,k 1863. Captured near Nashville, December 16, 1864 and sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois. Applied to take oath of allegiance in February 1865: "Claims to have been loyal Was conscripted - was captured and desires to take the oath of allegiance to the U.S. & become a loyal citizen." Mustered into the 6th U. S. Volunteers at Camp Douglas on March 25, 1865.
