about the University Cadets, but, you have to consider that this was not the only cadets in the state, and *all* cadets from the State of Alabama were given veteran status by the SCV. And, other cadets did see combat, such as the MCC from Mobile. Others, however, did not. I'm not sure where the other cadets were from, maybe one place was Summerfield Institute. Was the ag school down at Auburn in existence then? Surely Huntsville had a military school. I do know that there were a high number of private "high" schools and colleges in Alabama at that time. Pickens County had the highest number of private schools (all levels and schools for both sexes included in this number) in the State in 1860, but almost nothing is known of most of them. Who knows how many may have had a military based program, especially during the war.
