There's actually two of the men you mentioned. James Raines enlisted at Jasper, Ala., Feb. 22, 1862. Last record shows that he drew clothing on June 28, 1864. Allen Raines enlisted in Walker County, Sept. 20, 1863, perhaps the younger of the two. Both he and James transferred from Co. "L", 28th Ala. to Co. "F" of the same regiment on Jan. 6, 1864. Both companies were from Walker County. James probaly served with his unit in the fighting at Murfreesboro and Chickamauga. Both James and Allen were on roll when the regiment was overwhelmed at Orchard Knob, Nov. 23, 1863, and Missioanry Ridge, Nov. 25, 1863. Allen Raines was admitted to Ocmulgee Hopital, Macon Ga, Apr. 28, 1864, suffering from nephritis. He died there on May 15, 1864.

Nothing yet on Hiram or William B. Raines.
