Tom ElmoreCo. A, 4th AlabamaMon Feb 26 19:35:31 2001 E.B.C., There is an initial roll for Company A "Governor's Guards," 4th Alabama listed in the book, Reuben Vaughan Kidd, Soldier of the Confederacy, by Alice V.D. Pierrepont (Petersburg, VA: Violet Bank, 1947). Unfortunately John Maxwell's name does not appear on this roll. Perhaps he joined later as a conscript. The company was initially armed with the Mississippi rifle. Incidentally the company suffered 11 casualties out of 22 present at the battle of Gettysburg.
