Dog tags

A friend from work showed me a "dog tag" carried by her Confederate ancestor. I discounted the story when she first related it to me, but seeing is believing. It's a stamped metal device with a silver finish, roughly one inch square and having a small loop attached to the upper side so that it may be placed on a chain.

Let me hasten to add that it is obviously post-war, because it has the dates 1861-1865 on it. It also includes his name (B. E. Morton) and unit (Co. "A", 11th Ala. Cav. Regt.). She also showed me a photograph of her ancestor, mounted on a horse and wearing his tag. I'd guess the picture was done about the turn of the century from his age and appearance.

I don't know that this man belonged to a CV camp, and it doesn't include an emblem or initials to identify a veteran's organization. Anyone know about CSA dogtags?
