My GGrandfather, John Bryan Ward Nowlin, was supposedly a surgeon with the 9th Alabama Cavalry. His name may have been spelled Nowlan. I received a letter from the National Archives telling me to request info from them in that name, and for that unit, they did not have separate info on him in their Confederate Medical Personnel records. He was from TN, and the 9th was formed around Tullahoma TN. Do you have any information to substantiate this info? All I have at the moment is the family tale that he was "a surgeon in the Civil War". Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Arlene
