These are the two medical officers on staff with Malone's 9th Alabama Cavalry. I may be able to check staff records for your ancestor:

Benjamin F. Cross. Appointed Surgeon August 26, 1863, to rank from December 20, 1862; formerly Surgeon of the 19th Alabama Partisan Ranger Battalion. Assigned to duty April 15, 1863.
William Henry Banks. Formerly acting Assistant Surgeon with the 8th Confederate Cavalry Regiment; appointed Assistant Surgeon September 2, 1863, to rank from May 10, 1863. Surrendered at Concord, North Carolina, May 3, 1865.
