He definitely not a professional historian and sometimes makes grammatical errors that cause the book to appear less valuable than it is. However, you mentioned detail, and that's Haefendorfer's forte. He also wrote another account of Confederate cavalry in this theater during the summer and fall of 1862 called "They Died by Twos and Tens". He describes every one of Wheeler's rear guard actions while covering Bragg's retreat, as well as some obscure skirmishes involving Scott's Louisiana cavalry in the Tennessee Valley. Of course he identifies Federal units on the opposite side of the firing line. My kind of military history......
