Thanks! The Mollie Walton Guards included an ancestor and I didn't know that much about the formation of the unit. Here's what I have on Higgins from my notes on the 54th Alabama Infantry Regiment:

Company “B” of Limestone County “Confederate Bricks”

Capt. Charles W. Raisler. Elected Captain October 4, 1862. Captured at Champions Hill, Mississippi, May 16, 1863. Exchanged at City Point, Virginia, March [2,] 1865. Surrendered at Athens, Alabama, May 15, 1865; paroled at Nashville, Tennessee, June 1, 1865. [NA/88]

Captain Hiram H. Higgins’s company was accepted for twelve months service August 1, 1861, at Athens, Alabama. Members mustered at Memphis, Tennessee, October 5, 1861, as Co. “A”, 40th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. Captured at Tiptonville, Tennessee, April 8, 1862, they were exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi, September 20, 1862. Survivors surrendered with Company “A” of the consolidated 37th Alabama Infantry Regiment.
