Just a tidbit of information. Col. John G. Coltart led the 26th/50th Alabama. The Larry J. Daniels book on Shiloh credits William D. Chadwick with this position, but it was Coltart.

The 26th/50th formed from the consolidation of the 2nd and 5th Alabama Infantry Battalions. Col. Coltart led the 3rd Alabama Infantry Battalion which became the 7th Alabama Infantry Regiment. The 7th disbanded just before Shiloh and Coltart took over the newly formed 26th/50th in time to lead it at Shiloh. At Murfreesboro, Col. Coltart led a brigade attack when the regular brigade commander, Col. J. Q. Loomis, was wounded. This part of the battlefield is actually NOT part of the Stones River National Battlefield and the property is still in private hands.

If anyone has any other information about the 26th/50th or Col. Coltart, please feel free to contact me via email.
