At the time of the battle of Chickamauga, Sept. 19-20, 1863,
members of the Forty-third Georgia reported to parole camp after their exchange following the surrender of Vicksburg.

I've not seen an itenerary of the 1st Alabama Cavalry (U.S.), but it may have been in northeast Mississippi at the time. The regiment was badly beaten at Bay Springs MS, Oct. 26, 1863, losing 14 killed, 25 wounded and 29 captured. See below:

“Ferguson's (rebel) encountered the First Alabama (Union) Regiment, on its return from a raid, and worsted it. Details not yet received in full.”
W. T. SHERMAN,
Major-General, Commanding.
