How to order service records

For instructions on how to obtain CSR's (compiled service records), see this URL:

Take special note of accessing form 80 via email. Since you want the letter, specify that you want copies of ALL papers on file under your ancestor's name.

I did not see anything else on file to show that he was wounded, but a pension record might provide further clues. These are available at the archives in Montgomery, or you can view them at the Birmingham Public Library, Southern Department. They also have the service records mentioned above and will assist you if you are not familiar with the use of microfilm.

Don't forget the book on the 46th Alabama by George Evans Brewer; your ancestor's father seems to have held him in high regard. It ought to be available at a local library; ask for it on interlibrary loan if they don't have a copy.
