I'm glad you found the flags interesting.

Creating these things started simply when I wanted to display the 3rd bunting flag of the 5th AL Battalion on a webpage dedicated to them. The original flag is in the ADAH collection. There are copyright provisions for using the images online for these original images, so I produced an original image in PaintShop Pro, a graphics editing software. The picture looked fine, but I wanted a little movement on the page to entertain my visitors, so I set about finding a way to animate the flag. After much trial and error, I came up with a process to produce a realistic looking "wave" in the flag and posted it on this website. A few visitors asked about the flag and of those a few asked if I could produce others. After about a year I had accumulated a number of these animated flags and decided to put them on the internet.

Some are better quality than others and I believe I've improved the process further with some of my newest flags, which are not on the site. Because I have so many of these flags, I'm currently redesigning the flag page, delineated by state and with a section for national and special flags. The new page should be up and running within the next few weeks.
