I've sent an email to Dr. Bergeron asking if he can provide some additional detail beyond that which is in his book.

In your posting I was surprised to see that the transfer of these companies came so early in the war (June '62). I was guessing the transfers occurred later, perhaps 1864.

I agree, that it is probable ,these companies were dispersed into different companies in the 1st Louisiana Inf., since their officers did not retain command of these companies. Perhaps Dr. Bergeron can confirm this.

Have you ever seen a "reason" for the transfer? Was it due to the 1st LA's ranks being depleted or was it, perhaps, due to the fact that the Louisiana regiment had a more international content where these French and Spanish born men would be more comfortable?

This is a part of a continuing project to identify as many Alabama groups of men or units that served in the organizations of other states.
