Hayes LoweA tough one!Thu Feb 8 08:58:59 2001 That's a tough one! But, I'll try to give you a little help getting started.First thing that you need to do is find out his first name or initials. You should be able to find this on the census, perhaps the 1860 census would be the place to look first. You can locate him by locating his wife and children on the census.Next, look in Broadfoot's listings of Confederate soldiers from Alabama for men with that name (you'll usually get several possibilities). Or, post the name here and I'm sure somebody will look it up for you. Then, to narrow down the possibilities, you should try to match the possible men with those companies raised in Russel County. Now, is when it gets tricky, particularly in your case, since Hurtsboro is so close to the county line of two other counties. He could have joined in those counties. But, don't worry about that until you rule out all Russell County possibilities. Here are the regiments that I know of that had men from Russell County:6th AL Inf Regiment 9th AL Cav Regiment15th AL Inf Regiment 17th AL Inf Regiment34th Al Inf Regimen37th AL Inf Regiment 39th AL Inf Regiment45th AL Inf RegimentHardaway's AL BatteryWaddell's AL BatteryGood luck in your search!45th AL Judy Wills, Wed Feb 28 21:50
