July 20, 1907, letter in AL State Archives:
"This is to certify that on the night of May 7th, 1865, the members of Co.K, 2d Regt. Ala., Gen. Ferguson's Brigade, of which I was a member, were paid off with $25.00 each in Mexican Silver Dollars or gold. Mr. H. C. Sanderson was a member of my Co.K and also received $25.00 in Mexican coin, and being more fortunate than the rest of his comrades, has kept his until now. These are facts, and while I only mention my co., the whole Brigade was paid off in same manner -
